Tis Better to Give than to Receive
Well now that we are in 2010 one of my New Year’s Resolutions is to start blogging regularly again. So here we go.
Way back in 2008 Courtney and I were introduced to an incredible campaign called Advent Conspiracy. The basic idea is that we as Americans, being the richest country in the world, should take a small portion of the $450 Billion we spend annually on Christmas and rather generously give it to help those most in need. The main problem the funds are targeted to combat is the World’s Water Crisis which could be completely solved for around $10 Million.
For us those numbers were very humbling. When we realized how insanely blessed we were, we knew that we had to respond. However instead of using the money we would spend on the presents we gave to others, we requested that all our family members take the money they would normally spend on our presents and donate it to a worthy charitable group in our name.
It was a fantastic success. Our family members really stepped up and we were blessed to be apart of a great outpouring of God’s love and blessings. You can read all about it in this post I did last holiday season.
So this past year (2009) we decided to do the same, and once again requested our family members give us donations rather than presents. So this year we were blessed to be a part of giving Music and Art Instruction, 2 Soccer Balls, 2 Ducks, and Education through the wonderful organization World Vision. It is so rewarding and humbling to get to pass on the blessings God has given to us.
While Christmas is a fantastic and obvious time to be generous, it doesn’t have to be the only time. World Vision as well as many other organization are looking for donations year round to help reach the least of these in Jesus’ name. So if you would like to help spread the love of Christ around the world I urge you to check out one of these organizations:

I can assure you your donation will have more impact than you can imagine.
Have a happy and generous New Year!
