Mad Music Monday – Above The Golden State: Above The Golden State
Nothing like a great new album review to help you shrug off the post-holiday weekend letdown. So to that end here I would like to offer an review of a great new band and album, both entitled Above the Golden State. I had the privilege of getting to see the lead singer of this group open for Starfield here in St. Louis a few weeks ago. As their name implies they hail from the great state of Oregon, and bring with them a fresh new sound as well as honest poignant lyrics.
Their freshman album contains 13 tracks including one instrumental/spoken word track that features the 13th Chapter of 1 Corinthians. The album kicks off with an upbeat declaration of their purpose and mission in Loud and Clear. Track 2, Gaze Into Your Eyes, is a powerful love ballad professing the overwhelming desire of losing oneself in the Lord Almighty. Track 3 is their first and current radio release, Sound of Your Name. It articulates the awesome power in the name the Lord to the perfect head-bobbing beat. The album continues in an underlying theme of love with songs like I’ll Love You So, Love, Scared, One Thirty-Nine, and All My Heart. It also has a couple of more erie ballads that include Streets and The Haunting. The album sums up with a couple fun tracks, Comeback and Real to Reel, about life in this foreign desperate land.
Overall this is a really solid album for their first release. Starfield, Tenth Avenue North, and Switchfoot hands will not be disappointed. You can pick it up on iTunes for $8 or on www.musichristian.com for the same price. If you are looking for a great Christmas present for that music fan of yours this is definitely a good option.
As always Buy don’t Burn!
