  • Thank You

    November 25th, 2008 | Micah Mathis

This past Sunday we had our Thanksgiving service at ECC. All of our music and the message was focused on the blessings in our lives and how to be grateful in light of them. Due to some last minute schedule changes the Praise Team was able to do the special music for the service. So Saturday I quickly opened up my iTunes and typed thanks in the search bar to see what songs I had in my collection that might fit the theme of the day. The first one that popped out at me was a great song by indie Christian artist JJ Heller. I was blessed to cross paths with JJ’s music a little over a year ago, and absolutely fell in love with your folk rock vibe. The song I chose was Thank You from her Only Love Remains album. Here are the fantastic lyrics from her song:

    For painted purple skies
    For never telling lies
For giving all you had away
    For crying when I cry
    Ooh thank you…

    For changing autumn leaves
    The salty ocean breeze
For coming down from heaven to save a wretch like me
    Ooh thank you…

I can’t understand why you left your throne
But I know that you came and you saved my soul…

    Amazing grace
    How sweet the sound
I once was lost, but now I’m found
    Ooh, thank you

This song speaks to me, because I know it does something that I often neglect. That is it thanks the Father for all He is, all He does, and all He provides. It is not something that should be restricted to a special day or time of the year, but unfortunately due to my fallenness it often takes such an occasion to remind me these facts. On a side note if you have never heard JJ Heller I would strongly recommend you check out her music. You can pick up Only Love Remains on iTunes for $10 or in her online store at $15.

I encourage you this week to use part of your quiet time each day to simply thank the Father. It is a liberating and rewarding experience to say thank you to the ultimate giver and servant.
