  • Corporate Prayer & Community

    November 12th, 2008 | Micah Mathis

There is something special about times of corporate prayer. I pray each day during my personal time with God, and it certainly is productive, intimate, and rewarding. Still it cannot compare with a time of prayer share among believers. It is not that one is necessarily better than the other, just different. Each has its own purpose, place, and pleasure. Regardless of whether it is prayer with my wife, my discipleship group, or the whole body each time I am amazed and blessed by the Father.

This morning I attended our weekly staff prayer time. I don’t get to make it every week due to my business travel schedule, but when I do it reminds me of how much I miss it when I don’t. I love hearing the heart of my fellows servants in Christ, and see their passion for His renown. Somehow it seems we are never more vulnerable than when we enter into a time of intimate prayer with the Father, and to be able to do that with like-minded brothers is a special privilege. Bearing your soul before the Omniscient God is one thing, but to be willing and able to do that in the presence of other humans is totally different. It is letting someone else into the depths of You. Letting them see and hear and all the things that no one else does. It is beautiful. It is vulnerable. It is true community.
