Mad Music Monday - Chris Tomlin: Hello Love
For this installment of Mad Music Monday I wanted to give a quick shout out to Tomlin’s newest album Hello Love. This album has been out for while now, but with all the other great albums in queue I couldn’t get to reviewing it until now. Tomlin first stepped into the national spotlight under Passion Conferences and SixStep Records with his first album The Noise We Make. Since then he has released 5 more studio albums as well as being featured on multiple Passion projects and other live and compilation records. His newest installment, Hello Love, keeps with his record and life purpose of providing fresh and insightful worship songs for the church.
The album kicks off with powerful call to worship simply titled Sing, Sing, Sing. Its strong rock anthem vibe and declarative lyrics make it a perfect intro song. The second track on the album was the first radio release from this project, Jesus Messiah. This slightly more choral inspired anthem proclaims the abundant worth of Christ using a name rarely found in worship songs, Messiah. The other uptempo rock inspired tracks on the album include You Lifted Me Out and With Me. The rest of the album is fairly subdued containing several great love songs to God. He also includes several hymn inspired originals including Praise the Father, Praise the Son, All the Way My Savior Leads Me, and My Beloved. In an original and unusual twist for Christ he does include one song simply entitled Love that has a more African feel to it and includes the Watoto Children’s Choir. The album also includes a arrangement of God of This City, a track off the like titled Passion CD and Tour.
Overall Chris has put out another solid worship album. Although it is certainly not my favorite of his albums, I don’t think anyone can deny the fact that with every record Chris continues to provide the church a plethora of quality worship music. The regular Hello Love album can be picked up on iTunes for $10 or at Tomlin’s store for $10. Also in Tomlin’s store you can pick up a Worship Leader Edition ($17) that includes all kinds of extra goodies to help worship leaders incorporate the new tracks into their services.
As always Buy don’t Burn!
