Courtney and I went to a concert Sunday night with my sister Sarah and our friend Leslie. It was a fantastic show. Robbie Seay Band and Alli Rogers both put on a great show. The concert was held at Windsor Crossing church in Chesterfield, and while we were there the pastor shared a program the church was starting for this holiday season called Advent Conspiracy.

It is a really awesome concept. Basically it is a campaign to reclaim the origins and true meaning of Christmas – love. The campaign encourages us to fully worship God, spend less, give more, and love all. In other words celebrate the advent season as Christ did in humility and love. Spend less money on crap we (and our family/friends) don’t need, and use the money we would have spent on gifts to help those in need. This could be those in need locally like a family in your neighborhood who is without work, it could be those in Houston trying to recoup from hurricane Ike, or those in third world countries without clean water. Regardless the point is to love God’s people more through giving to meet real needs instead of giving to fulfill more consumerism that leaves us all more empty at the end of the day.

I would encourage you to check out this movement. They have a great intro video on their website, and lots of great information about the campaign.
