This week I want to spread the word about an extremely cool website called NoiseTrade. NoiseTrade was birthed out of the overwhelming success of Derek Webb‘s Free Derek Webb marketing campaign in which he gave away over 80,000 copies of his full length record Mockingbird. After this tradition breaking experimental web 2.0 marketing campaign Webb saw a spike in concert attendance as well as increased merch and record sales including Mockingbird (the album he gave away for free).
So NoiseTrade it Derek’s way of helping other artists experience the same great success. He is quoted as saying, “A great record is its own best marketing tool.” To the surprise of many, lots of artists have jumped on the bandwagon. NoiseTrade already boasts over 50 different artists, and seems to be adding to its catalog weekly. It contains accomplished artists like Derek Webb, Sandra McCracken, Sixpence None the Richer, and Justin McRoberts as well as great new up and comers like Ali Rogers, Judd and Maggie, and Joy Whitlock. Did I mention they are all FREE! Well basically free.
So here is the deal, you offer up your name, email, zip code, and three friends emails and vavoom you get a free album. Don’t want to give up any personal info, or expose your friends to great free music? Fine you can name your price then. That’s right pay whatever you want for the album. On top of all this you can download as many albums as you want using the above mentioned criteria. That’s right folks, no limits.
