  • Saddle Up! Tell Others!

    August 5th, 2008 | Micah Mathis

This week is our church’s first annual VBS, and our theme is Cactus Canyon. The kids and volunteers are having a blast dressing up like cowboys/cowgirls. They have a time of worship, crafts, snack, bible study, and recreation. So far we have had around 50 kids each night with over half of them not currently attending Eden. It  has been an awesome privilege to see the innocent children come to Christ with such excitement and joy. It reminds me of Christ’s words:

    Mark 10:14

Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.

    Mark 9:37

Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.

Our motto for the week has been “Saddle Up! Tell Others!” Simple and straight to the point. Too often I make the Gospel much more complicated than it really is. I start tacking on my agenda of discipleship, worship, bible study, purity, righteousness, giving, etc…. Christ told us that Kingdom of God belongs to children, and that whoever welcomes them in His name welcomes Him and His Father as well. I have seen the depth of truth in those verses this week as 50 children have come to Him, and He has brought the Kingdom to them. All it takes is a childlike faith, some cowboy costumes, and a few silly songs. Ok maybe the costumes and songs are extra, but it does seem to add a little something even if it is more for the adults than the children.

Thank you Father for the simplicity of the Gospel, and forgive me Father for trying to make it complicated.
