Mad Music Monday – Tenth Avenue North: Over and Underneath
Well as I mentioned in a post last week, I have found a new band that I am quickly falling in love with. Tenth Avenue North has just recently busted onto the national Christian music scene with their radio single Love is Here. Their new album Over and Underneath has been playing on my iPhone non-stop for the past week.
When I picked it up I was unsure what it might behold, but I have been very pleasantly surprised with depth and honestly of their lyrics, not to mention their fabulous Switchfoot-esque sound. This young quartet brings a ton of energy and passion to their music, and immediately draws you in.
The first track on the album is their radio release Love is Here which I like, but is certainly not my favorite. I absolutely love the honest lyrics and simple melody of Times, and the Awe-inspired message of Hold My Heart comes in at a very close second. Other uptempo numbers include Lift Us Up to Fall, Break Me Down, Satisfy, and Hallelujah. The album has equally powerful ballads including By Your Side, Let it Go, Beloved, and You Are. Also if you pick up the iTunes version you will an extra track, Lovesick, which is really good as well.
I have not found a single track on the album that I don’t like. Many of the songs are searching for answers while others are just proclaiming God’s majesty and grace. A few of the tracks definitely have worship service potential to them as well (Hallelujah and Hold My heart).
So in conclusion if you are looking of a new artist to listen to I would say you really can’t go wrong with Tenth Avenue North. I expect to see very big things from this group as they hit the Tour scene this Fall with Sanctus Real. You can pick up Over and Underneath online at www.independentbands.com for about $10 or on iTunes (with the extra track) for $10 as well.
As always Buy don’t Burn!
–Wholly Surrender!
